Green Tea And Hair Loss

Green tea and hair loss is not the usual heading you see about this wonderful herbal remedy.

The benefits of green tea usually centre on the antioxident content or metabolism increasing properties so loved by those trying to lose weight.

Green tea research is very patchy on the effects of green tea and hair loss but there is a common theory being put forward that makes green tea a possible future hair loss remedy.

The main body of evidence for green tea and hair loss surrounds the evidence of the ability of green tea to influence the levels of hormones circulating in the body, in particular testosterone.

Testosterone is carried around the body in a bound unusable form by globulin.

In order for the testosterone to be converted into a usable form the globulin needs to be acted upon by a special enzyme. This enzyme is called 5a-reductase.

Once the testosterone comes into contact with the 5a-reductase in the hair follicle it produces dihydrotestosterone, more commonly known as DHT.

It is the presence DHT in the hair follicle which causes the problems of hair loss.

Green tea research is at such an early stage that it is not truly known whether there is any benefits of green tea that can be attached to the theory of green tea and hair loss.

In addition to that a known dosage just does not exist.

Having said that, green tea in itself is a herbal remedy and can simply be enjoyed as such.

However, as with all herbal remedies it is very inadvisable to take them in large doses.

Some people can have allergic reactions to herbal remedies and if you are in any doubt you should contact your doctor before taking a herbal remedy.

So in summary, green tea and hair loss is a very young field, but if more green tea research is carried out then there is hope that the benefits of green tea can be brought to add to the list of conditions for which green tea is a potential remedy.
